More from John B-S

Greetings Bloggers

It was great to be back on Radio Verulam 92.6 and I must say I did rather a fine show on Thursday. (26th March) Music tracks included Survivor, Tina Turner, Steely Dan, Ian Dury & the Blockheads, the Clash, the Troggs, Flock of Seagulls, Free not to mention current hits from Shena (wonderful disco song, a real throwback to the 70s), Sugarland (catchy but very annoying), Paul Carrack (who I have met) , Pet Shop Boys and Snow Patrol. Diana Ross celebrated a birthday as did Teddy Pendergrass and one of the girls from the Human League. I also played an album track from Elton John and a wonderful reggae version of Love Me For A Reason by the Fabulous Five. The idea is to play a wide selection of the best music, community favourites, classic hits and album tracks and the best of the new.
In the news, city workers in London have been warned not to wear business suits on Saturday as they may become a target for demo protesters. I'm still bothered about the politicians claiming all those expenses not to mention those bankers with enormous pensions! On the lighter side, Fern Britton announced she was leaving 'This Morning' on ITV, because Philip Schofield is paid a lot more than her while BBC Breakfast presenter Kate Silverton was upset because her (male) colleague was making fun of her frumpy blouse!
There was some local news, what's on/entertainment and in sport we looked ahead to the Formula 1 in Australia (how will Stevenage lad Lewis Hamilton get on?) and the Boat Race on Sunday. I got into a bit of a muddle on the travel news at 6.30, and met Lydia and her friend who were coming in live to do an Irish show (the Emerald Hour - Thursdays at 7pm.) They talked about Ireland winning the Six Nations Rugby.
If you have any ideas about what you would like to hear on these shows whether it's music or things to talk about please let us know. You can leave a message here, email studio@radioverulam.com or phone 01727 839926 when we are on the air.
Don't forget Danny is with you 3 days a week, I'll be back again, Tuesday and Thursday at 4pm.

Cheers

John B-S

John B-S - Back on RV

Hello Bloggers

I started back on air on Tuesday 24th March and I have to say IT'S GREAT TO BE BACK!

West Herts Evening is the drivetime show for Radio Verulam 92.6, weekdays 4 - 7pm . On Mondays,Wednesdays & Fridays , Danny Smith is at the helm but as of now I'm back on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

I have to admit I made a few simple mistakes back on air...nothing too horrendous but it was great to be talking the usual nonsense, to take over from Warren who does a jazz-funk afternoon show, thanks to Neil for his help on reception, and great to get a call from Danny. We talked about Jonathan Ross being up for a BAFTA despite making that lewd phone-call last year. Looking back was it all a fuss about nothing? I don't think so.

On the programme as well as playing lots of interesting music, we give you news, local news, travel, what's on, information and entertainment. I sometimes have an opinion or two about stories in the news...politicians expenses springs to mind! I also told you that Queen Elizabeth I died on 24th March 1603 and gave you other facts from history (some of it wrong)

For more fun join me on Thursday at 4!

Cheers

John B-S

The Gig Guide: Review & Tracklisting - Fri 15th March 2009

Greetings all,

It was an excellent show this week, including a brilliant interview with Paul Littler. Also a big thankyou to Royal Flush who not only gave us a first play of their latest track but also for the rather lovely t-shirt. I'll post up a picture of me wearing it at some point, promise!

Also worth mentioning the Red Nose gigs by Swanvesta Social Club who visited five different venues and playing in a short amount of time before moving on to the next one. It would be great to hear some feedback about the evening and how they got on, so if anyone went along to any of the gigs, then drop me a message.

The Gig Guide: Review & Tracklisting - Fri 6th March 2009

Greetings all,

Well I’m not usually stitched up but Friday was definitely a sore point as Mr Danny Smith, presenter of the West Herts Evening Show proceeded to play the rather horrific Annie Lennox version of Ash’s ‘Shining Light’. I am happy to say that this poor choice of song was nothing to do with me, so all complaints to him please. Right now that’s sorted…

Another music packed show and all artists playing this week. Getting some really amazing stuff at the mo, so keep sending in the tunes and I’ll do my best to play them.

This week’s tracklisting:

Nick Stephenson – Freaky Idol
http://www.myspace.com/nickstephenson1

Bebop & Rocksteady - No Long Time
http://www.myspace.com/killallturtles

The Startover – 13 Ways To Be Better Than You
http://www.myspace.com/thisisthestartover

Albany Down – I Wanna Know
http://www.myspace.com/albanydownofficial

Outro: Ash - Petrol

Next week we’ve got more music and we’ve got local music artist & promoter Paul Ryan Littler on the show, should be a really good one.

Keep sending the tunes in!

That’s Friday, 6:30pm-7pm on the West Herts Evening show with Danny Smith, only on Radio Verulam 92.6FM.

The Gig Guide - Review & Tracklisting: Friday 27th Feb 2009

Greetings once again,

It was another music fest of a show. Not quite sure how we managed to fit all 5 songs in, what with all the various music events happening around the area to mention, but somehow we did and it sounded pretty good if I say so myself (which I do).

Tracklisting:

Tasha Fights Tigers – Circus Stomp
http://www.myspace.com/tashafightstigers

Trouble With Tuesday – Lonely Man
http://www.myspace.com/troublewithtuesday07

Betaboy – All Of This Time
www.myspace.com/betaboy

Maclaren Wall – For A Day
www.lemonrock.com/maclarenwall

Big Ending: Biffy Clyro – The Conversation Is…

I also talked a bit about the latest Battle Of The Bands Competition that kicks off this week of which both Trouble With Tuesday & Betaboy are taking part in. Best of luck to both of them and (in the interest of staying neutral) Selahdore and The Finger Clicks. I'm planning to attend the evening so if you see me down there (not that you'd recognise me...must put up that picture again) come up and say hi.

Until next week...
