Today we interviewed Paul Thrush from the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust. Paul told listeners that there is much wildlife to see in Hertfordshire at this time of year - especially birds. At this time of year you can see red wing migrating from Scandanavia, especially between September and March. You can also see wagtails nesting in urban areas.
This time of year is a great time to see winter ducks at some of the Trusts nature reserves. You might even see starlings roosting, blue tits, grey tits, nut hatch and the gold crest which is the smallest bird in Europe!
Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust have lots of events coming up including autumn walks - details of which can be found by checking out the website: www.hertswildlifetrust.org.uk.
A really interesting event coming up is the Festival of the Trees. This week long event will take place from the 30th November to the 6th December in St Albans Town Hall and will showcase over 50 community groups through decorated trees and displays. Over the 6 days, people can visit the festival to view the trees, be entertained by local performers and have their photo taken with the Herts and Middlesex Wildlife Trust badger! The event will include a black-tie opening gala on Monday 30th November. Tickets for the black tie event can be obtained by calling 01727 858901 or emailing info@hmwt.org.uk.
