Hi everyone,
On the show today we heard from Nell Bryden who has today released her album 'What Does It Take'. Nell told us that she comes from a very musical background - her mother was a musician and Nell spent alot of her childhood around musicians. Nell began writing her own material and after touring in pubs and clubs for years in Europe, relased a single 'What Does it Take' which really took off. Nell describes her music as 'Americano' and has many influences including old jazz, Jimi Hendrix and the Beatles, and is always open to new styles. Transition St Albans
Hi everyone,
On the show today we heard from Richard Watson of Transition
St Albans which is part of the Transition Towns movement. The aim of the movement is to prepare our towns and cities for the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change.
In the coming decades, climate change and peak oil will require us to radically re-think our lifestyles, and adopt a way of life that uses less energy. This will need government legislation, and it will need individual actions, but we don’t need to wait for either of those. Transition Towns is about empowering communities to pull together and start grassroots initiatives in their local areas.
Each Transition Town is different and develops its own set of projects. These may include community gardens, car sharing, insulation and energy saving campaigns, and even local currencies such as in Totnes. There are over 200 official transition initiatives registered, in Britain and abroad. Transition St Albans is an official Transition Initiative – the 196th!

It's on Tuesday 13th October at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 (£3 for concessions) and are available from the Maltings Box Office on 01727 844 222. Prospects is a Christian voluntary organisation which values and supports people with learning disabilities so that they live their lives to the full. Prospects supports people to live as independently as possible and develop a wide range of skills. For more information, visit the Prospects website at www.prospects.org.uk.
Also on the show, Danny interviewed John Godman of Townsend Bowls and Tennis Club. Townsend Bowls and Tennis Club is one of the premier sports clubs in Hertfordshire with teams in both sports playing at very high level in the local area and beyond. Although the club was established in 1919, it has a new clubhouse opened in 2000, and has modern facilities. Whether you are a novice or a county champion, you can be sure of a warm welcome. On yesterday's show we spoke to Rodney Day of the St Albans Judo Club. We talked about the health & well being benefits of judo, the clubs recent tremendous achievements and how they are celebrating their 60th anniversary in 2010!
